Peach Varieties

Early Elberta

This  medium sized  yellow peach can be used for many purposes.  You can make peach jam or canned peaches, pie, cake, cobbler or crisp, but eating them fresh allows you to enjoy one of the sweetest, most  juicy, flavorful peaches you will ever enjoy! 

The Elberta  an heirloom peach was first developed in Georgia in the 1870s. Samuel Rumph developer of the Elberta, combined the Blood Peach with a another called the  Chinese Clingstone to create the Elberta peach.

The skin  of the Elberta  is red and yellow and the interior of the peach is yellow with red streaking. The Early Elberta has very small pit so there is lots of fruit to enjoy! It is a freestone peach when ripe and usually is ready for eating  by mid to later July,  but ripening times vary depending on weather conditions in the orchard.

Saturn

Did you know that all  peaches originated in China? It is also interesting that Asian countries prefer white peaches to the yellow variety more commonly grown in the US.

Saturn is one of our white peach varieties which is also known as the donut peach or UFO peach due to its flattened shape.

This  white variety has melty flesh with a mild,  unique sweet flavor.   Saturn peaches are  medium sized, about 2 1/2" and originate from China circa 1869.  Saturn peaches are freestone. Typically this variety ripens in  mid to late July;  but dates for ripe peaches vary depending on orchard weather conditions.

Queen Elberta

These  yellow peaches are extra large, delicious for fresh eating and great for preserves or  pie filling.

The Queen Elberta (like the early Elberta), is an heirloom variety  which is extra sweet and larger than standard Elberta peaches. Originally developed by Stark Brothers in 1925, this peach is extra firm and perfect for canning and freezing. Queen Elberta  is freestone and usually ripens in mid August, but weather conditions in the orchard will determine readiness of fruit for eating and use.

Contender

The Contender peach  is a yellow peach mostly grown in northern regions of the US. It was originally developed in Raleigh, NC in 1988. 

Peaches have oval shape and are medium to large in size. Fresh peaches are  sweet and tangy; terrific for fresh eating and known for a mango like flavor and texture Contender peaches are known for their non -browning flesh; so they are perfect for preservation . This cultivar is a freestone or melting peach; as the flesh  of the peach easily separates from the pit of the fruit.

Contender peaches usually ripen in Mid to late August depending on weather conditions.

Sun-Glo Nectarine

This  variety is considered  the queen  of the nectarines! These yellow nectarines grow to 3 inch in size! You can freeze them or eat them fresh.  You can also preserve them or use them for baking.  Sun-Glo is one of the few nectarine varieties that is freestone. Developed in 1962 in Merced California,  and  trees originally were marketed by Stark Brothers.  Sun Glo nectarines usually ripen in early August, but weather conditions  in orchard will impact when fruit is ready for eating.

Blushingstar

Our other variety of white peach , Blushingstar is delicious   for fresh eating, canning freezing or baking.  These white peaches are firm, white fleshed and have a unique sweet flavor. Blushingstar peaches resists browning when cut. The Blushing star  peach was introduce in 1996. This is melting/freestone variety that ripens in mid August. Ripening will vary based on weather conditions in our orchard.
